FOR THE LOVE OF QUINCY (How Autism Blessed Our Lives)

FOR THE LOVE OF QUINCY (How Autism Blessed Our Lives)

Hello Everyone, I’m Lynette. I’m so thrilled to welcome you to 4 THE LOVE OF QUINCY here on THE PORCH.  I’m a mom to 3 incredible human beings, Jordan, Quincy, and Kennedy, plus a wife to the most amazing husband a girl could ask for, whom you all know as your Fearless Leader and loving know as the "For The People" Roger Thomas. There have been plenty of days the Lord has used him to gas up my tank whenever it has been on empty and it has been my pleasure to be that source of support for him to lean on as we navigated together through our world. Within this world of ours, we have many pockets along its surface.  One of those pockets is having a passion for people, we love to help in all areas of life, which the Bible encourages us to do, whether it be creating multiple streams of income to help others gain financial independence as we do on the Porch or providing a place to live for those who are in transition and need of time to reset in their lives.  Our Lord has used us in a mighty way, and we are just so happy to be of service to him. Another one of those pockets I spoke of earlier would be the beautiful world of Autism.
Yes, I did say beautiful, because our God can take a situation at first glance that doesn’t look so appealing and sometimes downright the opposite of what you were expecting and make it into something of beauty. This is what happened to us and my mission is to hopefully be of service so you can see the beauty you were meant to see as a caregiver.

So, Let me tell you a little bit about Quincy. Our son Quincy Anthony Thomas was born in April, Earth Day and interestingly enough Autism Month.  We were so proud of our beautiful baby boy as we were with our previous child, the one after.  Quincy was the chunkiest baby in the infirmary with the biggest and most adorable face, causing us to nickname him “Our Apple Face.”  I remember my mother recalling seeing the nurse attending Quincy being overcome by his cuteness overload. Lol!  In three days, we were able to take our Thick and Yummy baby home, making our three-member household into a four-member household.  I can remember one of the members of my husband’s band sending him a text saying  “A Prince is Born!!” We were all full of joy, what an exciting time!!!

Sometime later Quincy was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2, he is now 16.  In a few, I will share where he is on the spectrum because this information was always very important to me when someone would share their experiences about their loved one and their trials and triumphs.  It would be predetermined if what this person was about to share was relevant to me and my experiences. If not, I would then just nod and smile politely to the information I thought did not relate to my son and his experiences and challenges.  I share this because there may be someone reading this thinking this has nothing to do with my current situation.  Take it from me I later had to come to find out in my journey that whether your loved one is on the spectrum and or has challenges that have you as the primary caregiver, you will find something you can relate to and/or learn from.  This insight was a turning point in my journey.

I will share, as promised, where Quincy was diagnosed on the autism spectrum, moderate to severe were the results we were given.  This came with what I considered a declaration of "NEVERS" from doctors. “He will never do this, or he will never do that.”  I’m glad to say that we have overcome many of "NEVERS" through prayer, staying informed, trying to stay consistent, and having the love and support of family and friends.
And although we may have some people who still may consider all the "NEVERS" for Quincy. It wouldn't be the first time our Heavenly Father has made them believers in the power of “All Things Are Possible.”

So, For all of the moms, dads, grandparents, auntie, uncles, sisters, brothers, cousins, and family-like friends, if you fall under the umbrella of a caregiver, I welcome you to 4 THE LOVE OF QUINCY on the PORCH.  I Invite you to make this space your new home, where you will find encouragement, resources, herbal healing advice, prayer, and support.  I pray that this space will be a haven where you will know you are not alone. And perhaps your journey will feel a little lighter.
